National Tobacco Control Strategy 2022-2030

The formulation of the National Tobacco Control Strategy 2022-2030 stands out as a significant milestone in the history of Pakistan’s efforts to reform tobacco control. This comprehensive document outlines the National Framework aimed at diminishing tobacco-related harm in the country. The strategy’s objective is to establish a sustainable tobacco control system in Pakistan by mitigating the morbidity and mortality associated with tobacco-related diseases. It delineates specific objectives and targets for tobacco control until 2030, along with 12 priority areas for action, in alignment with the commitments of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). Furthermore, the strategy is designed to contribute to meeting global targets, such as reducing tobacco use prevalence by 30% in individuals over 15 years of age and achieving the WHO’s goal of a 25% reduction in premature mortality from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by 2025, and a one-third reduction by 2030, as outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 3.4 (6, 8). This document is a notable accomplishment in the ongoing efforts to address tobacco-related challenges.
