Tobacco Cessation

Tobacco cessation remains one of the most neglected areas in Pakistan, despite the grave health risks associated with tobacco use. However, a positive step forward has been taken through the implementation of the Tobacco Smoke Free Cities Project by the Tobacco Control Cell under the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination.

This initiative aims to create smoke-free environments in cities across the country, but it also recognizes the critical need for tobacco cessation support. The government has established 8 smoking cessation clinics in various hospitals across the country. There are additional cessation clinics being operated by the private sector.

However, given the magnitude of tobacco usage in Pakistan these numbers are inadequate and there is a need to establish more dedicated cessation centers to better serve the people of Pakistan.
